SugarSync has been praised by users for its reliability in syncing files between different devices and platforms. Many businesses have found it particularly useful in managing multiple hardware and browsers, allowing them to access the same files on any device. The ability to save files in the cloud with SugarSync ensures that users always have access to their files as long as they have an internet connection.

For businesses that work with code, SugarSync is commonly used for grouping sync and backup, ensuring stability and current development releases between coders. Additionally, small businesses without remote servers can benefit from SugarSync's remote access feature, enabling them to access important documents from anywhere using their phone.

In the post-production industry, SugarSync serves as a reliable backup assurance for multi-million dollar project files and select assets. However, some users have reported difficulties with daily file syncing, often requiring forced syncing. While some users appreciate the concept of SugarSync and its remote file access functionality, others have encountered mixed success and encountered challenges with customer support.

Although many users have recommended SugarSync to others, there have also been instances where free accounts were closed, resulting in data loss for some users. As a result, some individuals have switched to alternatives like OneDrive, finding it more reliable and better integrated with other Microsoft products.

Academic institutions and departments also utilize SugarSync to sync files across different devices and collaborate with colleagues seamlessly. However, administering the software can sometimes be challenging, requiring a restart of the syncing process if files become out of sync.

Overall, user feedback suggests that while SugarSync offers convenient cloud-based solutions for file management and accessibility, it is important to be aware of potential issues such as daily syncing problems and occasional difficulties with customer support.

Syncing Feature: Users have praised the syncing feature of SugarSync, with several reviewers mentioning that it works perfectly between PC and MAC. They appreciate how easy it is to set up and how it looks consistent on both platforms. This seamless syncing process has allowed users to avoid the need for learning new ways of using the software.

Cloud Syncing: Many users have appreciated the ability to sync their files to the cloud and access them from any device. They find this particularly useful in case of a crisis, as they can quickly log in and send required files to clients from any laptop, Android, or iPhone. The convenience of having their files accessible from anywhere gives them peace of mind.

Stability and Reliability: Reviewers have consistently praised the stability of SugarSync. They mention that it is rare for them not to be able to find a file, attributing any difficulties in locating files mostly to their own mistakes rather than any issues with the software itself. Overall, users find that SugarSync's syncing process works seamlessly and requires minimal attention from them.

Limited customer support: Several users have expressed their dissatisfaction with the lack of customer support provided by SugarSync. They have described it as non-existent and frustrating.

Bugs in the software: Some users have reported experiencing bugs in the SugarSync software. These bugs include issues like losing or duplicating folders randomly, which can cause inconvenience and frustration for users.

Difficult account cancellation process: A number of users have criticized SugarSync for its dishonest business practices, specifically making it difficult for customers to cancel their accounts. Users have mentioned that they faced challenges while trying to cancel their accounts, and some even claimed that they were charged for unused services.

Users of SugarSync have provided several recommendations based on their experiences with the cloud storage service. The three most common recommendations are as follows:

  1. Consider the cost: While users acknowledge that SugarSync is fast and secure, many find the high cost to be a significant drawback. Some reviewers specifically highlight the difficulty of recommending SugarSync, especially for small companies or individuals with budget constraints. They suggest exploring alternative options that may be more affordable.
  2. Utilize backup options: Several users recommend using SugarSync for independent file backup and syncing files across multiple devices. However, they caution against relying solely on SugarSync and emphasize the importance of having regular backups in case of any technical issues or data loss.
  3. Explore simpler alternatives: Another common recommendation is to try other web-based systems for file sharing instead of SugarSync. Some users believe that there are simpler and more user-friendly options available in the market. They suggest considering these alternatives before committing to SugarSync. It is important to note that these recommendations represent the opinions and experiences of individual users and should be considered along with other factors when evaluating SugarSync as a cloud storage solution.

Since I started my new workplace, here in my present academic institution in 2015 I have been along with my many colleagues experiencing cloud applications for syncing between different departments. At first, we were only with Dropbox, but we were not satisfying due to its changeability. My institution generally manages many promotions for student admission every year and due to this reason, my institution's department needs to use different combinations of software and hardware. Here, syncing is a very much crucial factor among other departmental devices while hosting a meeting with teachers and guardians as well. As we need to work with the same docs from different parts of the institution, when it comes to SugarSync, I usually overlook memorizing to transfer the file and necessary docs because they exist in any department. It is very terrible being forgotten to download the previous up-to-date necessary info while it is needed. It is also very much tough to collaborate with office colleagues with existing files when anyone is out of the office engaged in personal works. Here, to remove the barrier of communication and to be synchronized with colleagues, SugarSync can contribute an important role, allowing us to stay in our comfort zone keeping all the works in the cloud up-to-date.
  • They’ll give you free storage and you can purchase it for about $5 a month for probably more than enough storage than you’ll ever need.
  • SugarSync is free to try, they give you 5 gigabytes right out of the box and of course, you can add storage by getting your friends to sign up.
  • What happens with SugarSync, you don’t create a new SugarSync folder that’s shared. Instead, you manage and share your existing folders, determine which ones on your devices you want to share, and then enable sharing from that.
  • It’s a subtle but important difference in how it works because we have to manage the process a little bit more but it also means also SugarSync can possibly fit better into
  • your productivity work style, especially if you’ve got a really good system of file
  • management, stuff that you already use whereas in Dropbox, if you have a file system, management system you already use and you want to share those files, you have to move them into Dropbox which might break your system
  • SugarSync requires just a little bit more forethought.
When doing daily jobs, if you’re sharing large files, I think Dropbox works a lot better but if you have a system where you’re working within that system and you want to be able to work with that system and have certain folders that you have access to all the time then SugarSync might be just the ticket.

SugarSync automatically backs up all drives, folders or files I select, and it also keeps up to 5 copies or recent changes. It gives me peace of mind when saving anything to my computer.
  • Automatic backup.
  • Speed.
  • Reliability.
  • No cons so far!
SugarSync is great for anyone needing background date cloud backup, it is not good for those with a lot of data to back up as it costs more depending on the amount of storage you have.

I use SugarSync as a personal solution for my business. SugarSync enables me to know my entire documents and desktop folders are always backed up as well as access my data remotely, anytime. The biggest problem it solves for me is remote access. As a small business, we don't have fancy "remote" servers to access our data from anywhere, but SugarSync allows me to access any document, at any time, simply from my phone.
  • Backs up selected folders from your hard drive (i.e. unlike Dropbox you can leave your files where they are - they don't need to be in a specific folder to sync).
  • Allows for easy mobile access; awesome iPhone applications means my files are always just a click away.
  • Runs in the background without me ever noticing.
  • I wish I could more easily see what files are being synced as it happens; sometimes I am nervous that something is too large to sync or isn't done syncing before I close my computer.
  • On a mac, it would be nice if the bird logo didn't constantly appear at the bottom of my screen and it ran truly incognito.
SugarSync is best as an individual backup tool and remote access tool. In my opinion, SugarSync is less useful in multi-user scenarios. It is really more of a personal business solution, as opposed to a more organizational solution.

Currently we use SugarSync to group sync and backup code developed to ensure stability and current development release between the coders. This allows us to seamlessly update code without too many out of sync revisions which is critical for our in house development.
  • Seamless syncing
  • Backup of critical data
  • Easy Colaboration
  • A free version, 30 days is sometimes not long enough to see if it is suited for a project or business.
It is well suited for our needs for collaboration and backups. It would be less suited for someone just looking for online storage for personal use.

SugarSync is being used as a backup assurance for my company in our post-production department. We use it to back up multi-million dollar project files and select assets daily. My initial thought on SugarSync was for it to be constantly syncing our files without much oversight required. It has not worked out as promised by SugarSync videos.

As far as doing an initial backup, SugarSync the program works great! Our account went over our storage limit once, we instantly removed some files, but since it went over it would no longer sync. I had to manually delete everything from SugarSync and re-sync the folder for SugarSync to start working again. Since this happened, SugarSync does not sync files daily- it usually requires forced syncing.

The idea of SugarSync is a great one, I love what it is supposed to do, I just have not had the success I hoped for. I have been in touch with SugarSync support staff multiple times and they are pleasant to work with, but for the most part, unhelpful. All they can recommend is to wipe your account and re-sync all files.
  • Great for bulk backups if you do not require syncing.
  • Can give peace of mind if you do not go over your storage quota.
  • Once you go over your storage quota once, it seems that the account will not work properly with syncing.
I believe that SugarSync would work great for any person or business looking to backup a large amount of data without the need to have newer files synced. A big selling point for SugarSync is their desktop app- we do not use it. If you are looking to do backups without management, you will not use that tool often.

I have used SugarSync as the Sync app. I have suggested that many companies to purchase SugarSync as it was better layered than Dropbox. But SugarSync didn't want to continue with charity accounts so they closed all the free accounts including mine, which contained more than 100gb of data at the time.
  • Sync app
  • Sync with any device, even mobile devices
  • Sync quickly compared to other Sync apps
  • Let free users contine to use it, as they are the ones who spread the word about this app
  • Improve on Windows 8 app
  • Share files simultaneously
I will never ever recommend SugarSync to any of my colleagues or my fellow developers.
